Fredericksburg Healthy Creeks is a Grass-Roots Movement

This is Arundo donax (river cane) at the South Bowie Street crossing of Barons Creek in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The cane was sprayed on September 14, 2015, with a mix of herbicides especially prepared to kill this plant but not to damage anything else in the creek.  Our goal is to eliminate 100% of this fast growing invasive plant in the City.  Healthy Creeks is a grass roots movement of property owners and other citizens working with the City of Fredericksburg, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Hill Country Alliance.  For more information, contact community organizer Robert Deming at 830-992-5676 rcdeming@gmail.com

  1. Shouldn't we err on the side of caution? This poison is used on our food, in our fields, on our playgrounds, on our streets and it is used by TxDot for chemical mowing along Texas highways. Now we are spraying it in the creeks! What happened to common sense?
    * California’s Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) has issued plans to list glyphosate as known to cause cancer.
    * glyphosate is listed by the CDPR as having the potential to contaminate groundwater
    * the World Health Organization's Top scientists warn that the most commonly used herbicide in the world probably causes cancer! Glyphosate has been directly linked to birth defects, nervous system damage, Autism, Alzheimers, Parkinson’s, various forms of cancer, and kidney failure.
    * A new study published in the journal PLOS Computational Biology, from researchers at the University of Chicago, has revealed that autism and intellectual disability (ID) rates are linked with exposure to harmful environmental factors during congenital development.
In 1975, 1 in every 5000 children would develop autism. In 1985, it was 1 in every 2,500. In 1995 , it was 1 in every 500, in 2005 in was 1 in every 166 and today it is approximately 1 in every 68 children.
“At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic.” Dr. Seneff
The main toxic effects of glyphosate identified by Dr. Seneff (MIT) are as follows:
    • Kills beneficial gut bacteria and allows pathogens to overgrow
    • Interferes with function of cytochrome p450 (CYP enzymes)
    • Chelates important minerals (iron, cobalt, manganese, etc)
    • Interferes with synthesis of aromatic amino acids and methionine – leads to shortages in critical neurotransmitters and folate
    • Disrupts sulfate synthesis and sulfate transport
In the USA use of glyphosate rose 1500% from 1995 to 2005, and 100 million pounds of glyphosate is used every year on more than a billion acres.
More than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, have placed significant restrictions or complete bans on the production and sale of GMOs and the pesticides that go with them. Autism rates in Europe have remained steady over the last decade.
